🔎About The Featured Expert

Lisa Tauxe, Ph.D. is a Distinguished Professor Emerita at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, whose research in paleomagnetism reads clues preserved in rocks to understand how Earth's magnetic field has behaved through time, work that helps scientists predict how it might change in the future. She earned her bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1978 and her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1983. Over her career, she has authored or co-authored more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and two books on rock and paleomagnetism, and she founded and maintains widely used software for the paleomagnetic community. Her many honors include the Franklin Medal, the Arthur L. Day Medal, and election to the National Academy of Sciences.
